ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team moved back to the win column after defeating Elizabeth City 75-72 Monday night inside the R.L. Vaughan Center.
The Rams improve to 11-4 (3-3 CIAA), while the Vikings moved to 5-10 (1-5 CIAA).
Isaac Parson led all scorers with a season-high 22 points and five rebounds.
Samage Teel finished with 14 points while
Jaylon Gibson added nine points and seven rebounds.
DyQuavis Wilkins added eight points and
Jaylin Parker scored six.
ECSU opened the game on a 21-9 scoring run, then,
Nathan Springs hit a three to bring the Rams within nine with 11:09 to play in the half.
Samage Teel put the Rams within ten after hitting a free throw with 10:31 remaining. Around the 8:10 mark,
Jaylin Parker hit a three to bring the Rams within three (25-21).
The Rams went into halftime trailing 35-44.
A second-half surge found both teams tied at 46 with 15:04 to go in the game. A made lay-up from
Jaylon Gibson gave the Rams their first lead of the night, 54-53 (8:54). Then,
Jaylin Parker hit another three to put the Rams up 57-52. Back-and-forth the points were exchanged and with 45 seconds left to play the Rams increased their lead to five (69-64). Some made free throws down the stretch from
Isaac Parson and Jon Hicklin sealed the deal for the Rams.
