ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. –Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team fell to Elizabeth City 68-56 Monday night inside the R.L. Vaughan Center.
The Rams moved to 8-6 (4-2 CIAA), while the Vikings improved to 10-4 (4-2 CIAA).
Jainaya Jones led the Rams with 15 points, while
Amaya Tucker added 11 points and five assists.
Jakaiya Mack added six points and five rebounds as well as
Kendra Ross who also scored six points with five rebounds.
The first quarter went back and forth before the Rams ended the quarter on a 5-0 scoring run to take a 22-15 lead over the Vikings.
Jainaya Jones hit a three with 8:34 to play in the half to give WSSU an eight-point lead. With 3:42 left to play,
Erin Hall made a lay-up to put the Rams up 11, 30-19.
The Rams went into the half leading 32-25 over the Vikings.
ECSU outscored the Rams 25-14 to take a 50-46 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Rams trailed by five, 55-50 with 7:44 left to play in the game. The Rams got within four, 55-59 after
Kennedi Simmons hit two free throws but ECSU pulled away down the stretch winning the game 68-56.
WSSU is back inside the C.E. Gaines Center on January 14th hosting St. Augustine's at 2:00 p.m.
