Rams Win First Road Contest of the Season, Defeat Shaw Saturday Afternoon

DURHAM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University football team earned its first road victory of the season after defeating Shaw University 41-20 on Bradshaw Field in Durham County Memorial Stadium.
The Rams improved to 3-4 (3-2 CIAA) on the season.

How it Happened
  • Shaw got on the board first with a 2-yard run from Sidney Gibbs to give the Bears a 6-0 lead over the Rams.
  • With 11:49 to play in the second quarter, Daylin Lee threw an 8-yard pass to Jashawn Middleton to bring the Rams within one. The extra point from Jobanni Esparza put the Rams up 7-6.
  • Lee had another touchdown pass to Middletown for 27 yards to put the Rams up 14-6 with 8:10 to play in the first half.
  • Lee to RJ Mobley for an 8-yard pass to give the Rams a 21-6 lead with 2:27 to play in the first half.
  • An interception from Kahlil Harper gave the Rams the ball back with 59 seconds to play in the half.
  • Jobanni Esparza had a 23-yarder to give the Rams a 24-6 lead going into halftime over Shaw.
  • Jobanni gives the Rams a 27-6 lead over Shaw with 9:45 to play in the third.
  • Gabriel Linen had a 1-yard touchdown run and the extra point was good. Rams led 34-6 with 1:40 left to play in the third.
  • Lee with the keep running it in for five yards and the touchdown. The Rams led 40-13 with 5:19 to play in the fourth.
  • The Bears scored another touchdown in the fourth quarter, 41-20.
Inside the Numbers
  • The Rams scored the most points in the second quarter so far this season.
  • Daylin Lee was 15-30-1 for 195 yards and three touchdowns. He also was 5-for-62 in rushing and had one rushing touchdown.
  • Gabriel Linen had 17 carries for 164 yards and one touchdown. He also had four receptions for 43 yards.
  • Jashawn Middletown had three receptions for 42 yards and two touchdowns.
  • RJ Mobley had three receptions for 33 yards and one touchdown.
  • Camar Kyle had seven tackles (5 solo), one sack and 4 tackles for loss.
  • Carlos Craig had five tackles (3 solo).
WSSU will be back in action for homecoming hosting St. Augustine's on Saturday, October 21 at 1:30 p.m. inside Bowman Gray Stadium.
