INSTITUTE, W. Va. – The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team defeated Davis & Elkins 76-73 to close out the Earl Llyod Classic Saturday afternoon.
The Rams improved to 1-1 (0-0 CIAA).
Isaac Parson led all scorers with 19 points, while
Jaylen Alston added 14 points and Ketron "KC" Shaw dished in eight of its own.
Tyrhe Fortney had nine points and seven rebounds.

The Rams scored 38 points in the paint, had six fast break points, and scored 26 points from the bench. WSSU shot 27-of-58 from the field, 7-of-17 from three-point range, and 15-of-27 from the free-throw line.
After exchanging points back and forth, the Rams found themselves up seven, 24-17 with 7:02 remaining in the first half. The game was tied at 27-27 before the Rams took a six-point lead, 33-27 going into halftime.
WSSU saw its first largest lead, 17 (46-29) with 17:11 to play in the game. They increased their lead by 20 on a pair of free throws from
Isaac Parson to make the game 55-35 with 12:23 to play. At the under-eight-minute media time out, the Rams lead by nine, 690-51. Davis & Elkins slowly clawed their way back into the game trailing by only four, 67-63 with 2:50 remaining. The Rams battled hard down to the wire and eventually sealed the deal on a pair of free throws from
Jaylen Alston.
WSSU will be back in action on Tuesday, November 14 hosting the University of Mount Olive for its season opener inside the C.E. Gaines Center. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
