Women’s Basketball to Play Barton College Wednesday Evening

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball will travel to Wilson, North Carolina as they take on Barton College, on Wednesday, November 15th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. inside Wilson Gymnasium.

Series Information
The Rams lead the series 4-0. The last meeting was December 15th, 2015, when the Rams won 71-53.
 
Last Time Out
The Rams defeated Salem University 71-66 in the Frostburg Tournament, on Saturday, November 11th. Kennedi Simmons led the Rams with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Amaya Tucker had 16 points. Tolisha Walker also scored double figures with 11 points. Playing only 13 minutes Chloe Williams scored nine points.
 
Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back ten returners from last year's team. Sophomores Aaliyah Balser, Jakaiya Mack, Alexandria Warren, junior Kennedi Simmons, redshirt juniors Erin Hall, Taniah Wilkins, senior Hadiya Balser, redshirt seniors Jainaya Jones, Makayla Smith, and graduate student Amaya Tucker.
 
Rams Newcomers:
The Rams welcomed in newcomers Tori Crowder, Haley Dalton, La'Niya Simes, Chloe Williams, Christiana McLean, Starasia Bell-Freeman, Tolisha Walker, and Sierra Hunter.
 
CIAA Preseason:
Amaya Tucker and Kennedi Simmons were named to the 2022-2023 All-CIAA Women's Basketball Preseason Team Backcourt. Tucker is returning as the reigning CIAA Player of the Year. She finished last season averaging 15.6 points per game and led the Rams in three-point percentage with 40%. Tucker also shot 74% from the free-throw line. Simmons was second on the Rams in scoring, averaging 9.1 points per game. Kennedi shot 72% from the free-throw line.
 
Scouting Report
The Rams have won every match-up versus the Bulldogs.
 
Barton College (0-2, 0-0 CC) fell to Newberry 74-59 in the Southeast Regional Challenge, on Saturday November 11th. Nyla Powell led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Lauren Walker scored 15 points. The Bulldogs are averaging 64.4 points a game.
 
Up Next
The Rams will host USC Aiken for their home opener, on Saturday, November 18th at 2:00 p.m. inside C.E. Gaines Center.
