WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team begins regular season play in Maryland, on November 10th and 11th against Frostburg State University and Salem University.

CIAA Preseason:
Amaya Tucker and
Kennedi Simmons were named to the 2022-2023 All-CIAA Women's Basketball Preseason Team Backcourt. Tucker is returning as the reigning CIAA Player of the Year. She finished last season averaging 15.6 points per game and led the Rams in three-point percentage with 40%. Tucker also shot 74% from the free-throw line. Simmons was second on the Rams in scoring, averaging 9.1 points per game. Kennedi shot 72% from the free-throw line.
Scouting Report
Last year Frostburg State University finished (9-21, 6-16 MEC). Frostburg is returning four starters from last season Emilee Weakley, Maggie Sharp, McKenzie Freeze, Ciara Thomas. The Bobcats are returning their leading scorer Emilee Weakley who averaged 25.5 points a game. Weakley scored her season-high 38 points against Alderson Broaddus on January 7th, 2023. The Bobcats averaged 68.7 a game last year.
Salem University finished (13-17, 0-0 MEC) last year. Salem is returning seven players from 2022-2023; four were starters. With their leading scorer Nerea Arambarri Fernandez not on the team this year, the Tigers look to rely on Jayla Atkins, Kristan Cross, Anna Machytkova, Emerson Wells, Elena Pericic, Anete Bluma, Liliani Krause, Barbara Trehub. The Tigers averaged 66.7 points a game.
