Men’s Basketball Edges Out Clarion in Overtime Sunday Afternoon

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team defeated Clarion University 71-67 in overtime inside C.E. Gaines Center Sunday afternoon.
 
The Rams improved to (7-3, 1-0 CIAA).
 
Jaylen Alston led the Rams with a double-double of 27 points and 13 rebounds, and Imajae Dodd scored 19 points with nine rebounds. Jeremy Dixon had nine points going 3-for-6 from the three-point line.
 
Quick Inside the Numbers
The Rams went 26-of- 58 from the field, 15-of-22 from three. They scored 42 points in the paint, 17 points off turnovers. The Rams grabbed 34 rebounds and forced 17 turnovers.
 
In the first half, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 10-point lead 25-15 with 8:45 left. The Rams went on a 7-0 run at the end of the first half, cutting the Golden Eagles lead to 35-31 on a three-pointer by Jaylen Alston with 45 seconds left. The Golden Eagles took a 38-31 lead at halftime.
 
In the second half, the Rams started the half on a 14-0 run, highlighted by an Imajae Dodd lay-up then dunk making the score 45-31 Rams with 15:00 left. The Golden Eagles answered back with a 9-0 run giving them the lead 52-47 with 10:02 left. Jeremy Dixon answered back with a three-pointer making the score 52-50 Golden Eagles with 9:05 left. The Golden Eagles went on a 6-0 run extending their lead to eight 58-50 with 6:43 left. The Rams would outscore the Golden Eagles 14-6 for the rest of the half. Jaylen Alston went to the free-throw line and made both, tying the game 64-64 with 1:38 left. Imajae Dodd had a huge block to force overtime.
 
Jaylen Alston would score five of the seven points in overtime for the Rams.
