No. 6 Shaw Upsets No. 3 Rams in Quarterfinals of the CIAA Tournament

BALTIMORE, MD – Shaw was able to outlast Winston – Salem State 54-48 led by a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds from Brittiney Seymour in the quarterfinals of the CIAA Women's Basketball tournament. First Quarter

Shaw's Brittany Seymour was the only player on either team to score through the first five minutes as she led her squad to an 8-0 lead with 5:24 left to go. The Rams came roaring back and was able to tie the game at eight after CIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year Amaya Tucker hit a three-pointer. The opening quarter ended in a 10-10 tie.

Second Quarter With 8:22 left in the quarter the contest saw a tie at 14 after Taniah Wilkins split a pair of free throws. The Lady Rams went on to acquire their largest lead of the night thanks to a massive 10-0 run to make the score 28-18 with under four minutes left to go. Hadiya Balser was able to hit a mid-range jumper to give WSSU a 12-point lead before Shaw's Tanashia Hairston cut the deficit down to single digits after a three-pointer as time expired in the first half. Winston-Salem State took a 32-23 lead over Shaw into the locker room at halftime.

Third Quarter Brittiney Seymour started the Lady Bears 7-2 run early in the second half which allowed them to cut the lead WSSU lead down to just four points. Shaw's Alondra Jordan was able to hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the ball game at 36 all with 2:44 left to go in the third quarter. Shaw was able to hold a 39-36 over the Lady Rams heading into the final quarter of play. Shaw outscored Winston – Salem State 16-4 in the third quarter. Fourth Quarter After a back-and-forth start to the quarter, Brittiney Seymour gave the Lady Bears a slim 44-43 lead with just 5:44 left in the contest. WSSU was able to tie the game at 47 after Kennedi Simmons hit a jumper. Shaw went up 50-47 after WSSU turned the ball over with just a minute to go. Shaw was able to takeover the remainder of the ball game taking the quarterfinals matchup 54-48. Shaw Stat Leaders

Brittiney Seymour led the contest with 24 points and 11 rebounds shooting 10-of-13 from the field. Seymour also added a block and a steal in the win. Tanayja London ended with 13 points and six boards while Alondra Jordan scored six points and grabbed three rebounds off the bench.

Winston – Salem State Stat Leaders

Valencia Carroll led the team with 16 points off the bench shooting 4-of-10 from three-point range. Carroll also grabbed four boards along with a pair of steals, a block and an assist. Kennedi Simmons scored nine points along with five boards and an assist. Amaya Tucker scored seven points with a team-high nine rebounds.
