ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – On the last two days of the CIAA roundup hosted by Elizabeth City, the Rams went 3-1 inside the South Sports Complex.
Defeating Shaw, Virginia State, and Lincoln, but falling to Elizabeth City the Rams now sit at 10-8 (4-2 CIAA) on the season.
How it Happened – vs. Shaw
The Rams got on the scoreboard early leading 1-0 after the first inning. They added a run in the top of the second, but Shaw tied the game with two runs of its own in the bottom of the second inning. The Rams regained the lead with another run in the top of the third inning to go up 3-2. WSSU then added four runs in the top of the fourth and three in the top of the fifth to mercy rule the Bears 10-2.
Sierra Crocker threw the entire game with two strikeouts.
How it Happened – vs ECSU
The Rams got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning with two runs. The Vikings came back with six runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead. They then added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 9-2 lead. The Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to 9-4. ECSU secured the victory with one more run in the top of the seventh to defeat the Rams 10-4.
Alicia Carrington pitched the entire game with two strikeouts.
How it Happened – vs Virginia State
VSU took an early 5-0 lead. The Rams added one run after
Alycia Cunningham hit a home run in the top of the fourth inning to cut into the Trojans' lead, trailing 5-1.
Then, WSSU scored six runs on four hits to take a 7-5 lead over VSU in the top of the fifth inning.
Alycia Cunningham hit her second homer of the game to help give the Rams an 11-5 lead in the top of the sixth inning. The Rams scored seven runs on three hits to take a 14-5 lead over VSU. The Trojans added two runs to come within seven in the bottom of the sixth inning. VSU added two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but WSSU secured the 14-8 victory.
Sierra Crocker pitched the entire game moving to 3-3 on the season.
How It Happened vs Lincoln (Pa.)
The Rams took an early 1-0 lead after scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning.
Aniyah Jackson hit a three RBI home run in the bottom of the second inning to give the Rams a 4-0 lead. WSSU added four runs on five hits to take an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. The Lions' Tia Brown hit a home run in the top of the fifth inning to bring the score to 8-1.
Taylor Hilliard hit a walk-off double to give the Rams the 9-1 victory over the Lions.
Alicia Carrington threw 6.0 innings with one strikeout, improving to a 3-3 record on the season.
Winston-Salem State University is back in action on Friday, March 31st hosting Johnson C. Smith at Twin Cities Ballpark for a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
