Rams Sweep Johnson C. Smith on Senior Day

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University softball team swept Johnson C. Smith on senior day at Twin City Ballpark.

The Rams improved to 12-8 (6-2 CIAA), while Johnson C. Smith moved to 4-10 (3-4 CIAA).

How it Happened – Game 1
The Golden Bulls got on board first in the top of the fourth inning taking a 1-0 lead before the Rams answered back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. JCSU scored two more runs in the sixth inning to regain the lead. The bats got hot for the Rams as Emma Eckhart hit a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, then Sierra Cocker hit a two-run home run to give the Rams a 5-3 lead. Next, back-to-back RBIs from Aniyah Jackson and Kamryn Kirby gave the Rams a 7-3 lead. Teanna Davis sealed the deal with another RBI to give the Rams an 8-3 victory.

Malia Simmons earned her first start for the Rams, pitching 4.1 innings throwing two strikeouts and Sierra Crocker came in and threw 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.

How it Happened – Game 2
JCSU opened the second game with a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Rams cut into the lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning after Aniyah Jackson hit a two-run home run. The Golden Bulls scored one more run in the top of the fourth inning. The Rams answered back scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the 9-5 victory.

Sierra Crocker pitched 3.0 innings faced 18 batters and had two strikeouts, Alicia Carrington threw 4.0 innings and had one strikeout.
