BLUEFIELD, WV – The Winston-Salem State University softball team split in a doubleheader with Bluefield State on Wednesday afternoon.
The Rams took game one, 7-5 but dropped game two 12-6 to move to 13-9 on the season.
How it Happened – Game 1
Bluefield State got on the board first scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning. The Rams answered back in the top of the third with three runs of their own. In the bottom of the third Bluefield tied the game at 3 all.
Alycia Cunningham hit a home run to left center to give the Rams the lead right back in the top of the fifth. They secured the win in the top of the sixth with an RBI from
Emma Eckhart to give the Rams a 7-5 lead victory.
Alicia Carrington is the winning pitcher going 4.0 innings making her 4-3 on the season.
Malia Simmons also pitched and went for 3.0 strong innings.
How it Happened – Game 2
Both teams scored in the first inning, but Bluefield took an early 9-2 lead in the bottom of the second. The Rams responded with three runs in the top of the fifth to make the score 10-5. Bluefield State responded right back with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 12-6. The Rams were defeated 12-6.
Sierra Crocker was the losing pitcher going 1.0 inning making her 3-4 on the season.
Alicia Carrington also pitched and went 5.0 innings.
The Rams are back in action Saturday, April 8th at Barton College. The doubleheader begins at 12:00 p.m. at Jefferies Field in Wilson, North Carolina.
