Volleyball to Open Season at Dragon Classic

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team will begin its 2023 campaign by hitting the road to Jackson, Tennessee on August 31- September 2nd to play in the Dragon Classic hosted by Lane College.

They will begin the tournament playing host school Lane College on August 31 at 7:00 p.m. inside the J F Lane Gymnasium.

Dragon Classic Schedule
 Thursday vs. Lane  - 7:00 p.m.
Friday vs. Harris-Stowe State – Noon
Friday vs. Talladega College – 6:00 p.m.
Saturday vs. Dillard – 10:00 a.m.
Saturday vs. Kentucky State – 4:00 p.m.

Ram Facts
  • WSSU was predicted to finish fourth overall in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) poll and third in the southern division.
  • The Rams are bringing back seven returners from last season.
  • They welcomed eight newcomers during the off-season.
Scouting the Opponents
Vs. Lane – Lane was picked second in the West Division of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and Kyra Gaston was named to the preseason All-SIAC Team. She led the team in kills with 332 last season.
Vs. Harris-Stowe – HS is already off to a 3-2 record this season with wins against Crowley Ridge, Jarvis Christian, and Talladega College.
Vs. Talladega College – The Tornadoes are 1-3 so far with their lone win against Philander Smith College.
Vs. Dillard – Dillard was picked second in the Golf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) preseason volleyball poll. Chasry Lum-King was named to the second team. So far, they are 1-3 on the season.
Vs. Kentucky State- The Thorobreds, a member of the SIAC have added eight newcomers during the offseason. They were picked to finish third in the West Division of the preseason poll.
