Men’s Basketball Squeeze Past Shaw Wednesday Night

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.– The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team bounces back with a 74-70 victory over Shaw, inside a full-to-capacity C.E. Gaines Center.

The Rams improved to (13-5, 7-2 CIAA).
 
All five starters for the Rams scored in double figures. Jaylen Alston led the Rams with 19 points, Tristan Davis scored 14 points, and Ketron "KC" Shaw scored 11 points. Both Isaac Parson and Imajae Dodd chipped in with 10 points.
 
Quick Inside the Numbers
The Rams went 28- of-48 from the field, 14-of-24 from the free-throw line, and 4-of-10 from three. They scored 38 points in the paint, 18 fast break points, and grabbed 34 rebounds with 10 bench points.
 
In the first half, the Rams opened the game up on a 9-2 run highlighted by a Jaylen Alston jumper with 17:12 left. Devon Bristow would extend the Rams lead to 10 points on two free-throws 25-15 with 14:38 left. Isaac Parson connected on a three-pointer making the score 22-10 with 11:45 left. Imajae Dodd pushed the lead back 10 points with a dunk 27-17 with 8:11 remaining. The Bears closed the half on a 5-0 run cutting the Rams lead to 39-34 at halftime.
 
In the second half, Tristan Davis gave the Rams an early seven-point lead, hitting a three-pointer, 45-38 with 17:26 left. Devon Bristow slammed the lead back to five points 50-45 with 15:47 remaining. The Rams went on a 6-0 run highlighted by a Jaylen Alston free-throw, 56-50 with 11:23 remaining. An Isaac Parson lay-up would make the score 60-51 with 9:17 left. Once again Isaac Parson pushed the lead to nine points on a lay-up 69-60 with 4:35 remaining. The Bears went on an 8-0 run cutting the Rams' lead down to one point 69-68 with 1:41 left. Tristan Davis answered back with a lay-up 71-68 with 1:16 remaining. With the score 71-70, Jaylen Alston connected on a huge lay-up 73-70 with only 39 seconds left. Up by one 73-72 with 21 seconds left, Issac Parson went to the free-throw line, as he made 1-of-2 at the line 74-72. Devon Bristow missed his free-throw attempt, giving the Bears one more chance as they missed the game-tying jumper.

The Rams will head to Fayetteville, North Carolina on Saturday, January 26th. The Rams will be facing-off with divisional rival Fayetteville State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Felton J. Capel Arena.
