WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team defeated Virginia State 76-62 inside the C.E. Gaines Center Saturday afternoon.
The Rams improved to 11-3 (5-0 CIAA).

WSSU was led by
Isaac Parson with 25 points and six assists.
Jaylen Alston dished in 15 points and Ketron "KC" Shaw added 12.
Imajae Dodd had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and had a season-high eight blocks on the evening. The Rams scored 36 points in the paint, seven fast break points, and eight bench points. They scored ten points off of turnovers.
In the first half, the score was evenly matched and tied for the first part till the Rams went up five, 20-15 on a Dayln Brandon lay-up with 8:51 on the clock. The lead was short-lived as both teams were tied at 22 with 4:19 remaining in the half. The Trojans took the lead and kept it going into halftime up 31-27.
Trailing by three starting the second half, the Rams opened up with a huge spark and eventually regained the lead with a three from
Jeremy Dixon with 18:51 to play in the game. That spark and lead remained in the Rams' favor as VSU trailed for the remainder of the game. At the under-12 media timeout, the Rams were up 7, 50-43, 11:18 on the clock. VSU came as close as within three, but the Rams kept pulling away eventually leading by ten 70-60 with 2:47 to play and forcing the Trojans to call their final timeout.
Isaac Parson put the final nail in the coffin with a huge three to make the score 73-60 with 58 seconds left.
WSSU will be back in action on Saturday, January 13th at Johnson C. Smith University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
