Rams Sweep JCSU Thursday Night

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.  – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team defeated Johnson C. Smith University 3-0 on Thursday night, inside the C.E. Gaines Center. 

The Rams moved to 4-7 (3-3 CIAA) on the season.

How it happened vs. Johnson C. Smith (25-17, 25-19, 25-16) 
In set one, the Rams came out to an early 5-0 lead. JCSU would answer back with a 7-2 run tying the game at 7-7 focusing the Rams to call a timeout. The Rams answered back with a 5-0 run extending their lead to 12-7 on a Golden Bulls attack error. JCSU kept the fight going, cutting the Rams lead down to two on a 3-0 run 14-12 Rams. Extending their lead to eight, the Rams took a 21-13 lead and then the set, 25-17.

In set two, the Rams got a 13-9 lead on a Janai Tillman kill. WSSU extended their lead to six points, 20-14 on a JCSU attack error. The Golden Bulls answered back with a 3-0 run making the score 20-17. The Rams eventually took set two 25-19. 

In set three, with the Rams up 6-2, the Golden Bulls went on a 3-0 run cutting the lead down to 6-5 Rams. JCSU kept fighting, taking an 8-7 lead. Just like set two, it became a back-and-forth match. With the score tied at 10-10, the Rams went on a 4-0 run giving them a 14-10 lead, focusing JCSU to call a timeout. The Rams went on a 4-0 run extending their lead to eight points 21-13. The Rams took set three 25-16. 
 
Up Next
The Lady Rams will hit the road traveling to Greenwood, South Carolina to take on Lander University, on Tuesday, October 15th. The match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. inside Finis Horne Arena.
