Rams Fall to Lander Tuesday Night

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team fell to Lander University 3-1 Tuesday night, inside Finis Horne Arena. 

The Rams moved to 4-8 (3-3 CIAA) on the season.

The Rams had 53 points, 46 kills, 40 assists, and 70 digs. 

How it happened vs. Lander University (25-21, 25-21, 25-9, 25-19) 
In set one, the Rams took an early 3-0 lead on a Kamiyah Wilson kill. The Bearcats answered back with a 3-0 run tying the game 3-3. Down 10-9, the Rams went on a 4-0 run giving them a 13-10 lead on an attack error by Lander. With the score 15-10 Rams, Lander went on a 5-0 run tying the game 15-15 forcing the Rams to call a timeout. After a 19-19 tie, the Bearcats closed the set on a 6-2 run taking set one 25-21.

In set two, with the score tied 6-6, the Bearcats went on a 3-0 run, taking a 9-6 lead. The Rams answered with a 9-2 run, taking a 15-11 lead, causing the Bearcats to call a timeout. The Rams grew their lead to seven, 20-13. The Bearcats answered back with a 6-2 run, cutting the Rams' lead down to 22-19. The Rams took set two 25-21 and tied the match at 1-1. 

In set three, the Bearcats took an early 5-1 lead. With the score 6-3 Lander, the Bearcats went on a 3-0 run taking a 9-3 lead, focusing the Rams to call a timeout. The Bearcats would extend their lead to 14-6. The Bearcats took set three 25-9.

In set four, with the score 5-2, Lander went on an 11-2 run taking a 16-4 lead. The Rams kept the fight as they cut the lead down to seven 21-14 on a Janai Tillman kill. The Rams then cut the lead down to five 24-19 on a Malani Martin kill. The Bearcats eventually took set four 25-19 and won the match 3-1.

Up Next
The Lady Rams will hit the road traveling to Salisbury, North Carolina to take on Livingstone College, on Thursday, October 17th. The match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. inside New Trent Gym.
