ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team defeated Claflin University 3-1 Wednesday Night, inside Tullis Arena.

The Rams moved to 8-8 (5-3 CIAA) on the season.

How It Happened vs. Claflin University (25-16, 25-13, 25-23, 25-15)
The Rams took an early 7-4 lead on a Kamiyah Wilson kill. The Panthers answered back with a 4-1 run, tying the game at 8-8. With the game tied up at 9-9, the Rams went on a 3-0 run taking a 12-9 lead with an Aria Caldwell kill. The Rams went on another 3-0 run, extending their lead to five 19-14 on a Jewel Pitt ace. The Rams closed out the set on a 4-0 run, taking set one 25-16. 

In set two, the Rams came out on a 6-1 run.  The Panthers answered back with a 3-0 run, making the score 6-4. The Rams answered back with a 5-0 run, taking an 11-4 lead. The Rams extended their lead to 19-8 with a Claflin attack error. The Rams closed out the set with a 6-2 run, taking set two 25-13 and leading the match 2-0.

In set three, the Panther took an early 2-0 lead. The Rams answered back with a 6-0 run, taking a 6-2 lead on a Jordan Johnson kill. The Panthers answered back with a 3-0 run, making the score 10-9. The Panthers regained the lead 12-11. The Panthers extended their lead to 14-11. The Rams fought back with a 5-0 run, taking a 16-14 lead on a Zoe Chesson kill. The Panthers kept fighting, tying the game at 17-17. Claflin took a 21-19 lead and eventually took the set 25-23 and trailed the match 2-1.
In set four, with the score tied 2-2, the Rams went on a 3-0 run taking a 5-2 lead.  The Rams went on an 8-2 run taking an 18-11 lead. With the score 19-12, the Rams went on a 4-0 run taking a 23-12 lead on a Claflin error. The Rams took set four 25-15 and won the match 3-1.

The Lady Rams will travel to Ettrick, Virginia, to participate in the second CIAA Round-up on Saturday, October 26th & Sunday, October 27th. WSSU will take on Virginia Union University on Saturday, October 26th at 11:00 a.m. inside the Multipurpose Center.
