Rams Sweep Claflin on Senior Night

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.  – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team defeated Claflin University in three straight sets 3-0 Monday night.

The Rams improved to 14-9 (11-4 CIAA) on the season.

How It Happened vs. Livingstone College (25-12, 25-17, 25-15)

In set one, the Rams began on a 5-1 run, on a Malani Martin kill. The Rams would extend their lead to 9-3, on a Panthers error. The Panthers answered back with a 4-0 run, making the score 9-7. The Rams extended their lead 17-10 on a Zoe Chesson kill. WSSU closed out the set on a 6-0 run, taking set one 25-12. 

In set two, with the score tied at 3-3 WSSU went on a 3-0 run taking a 6-3 lead with a Zoe Chesson ace. The Panthers answered back with a 4-1 run, tying the game 7-7. The Rams extended their lead to 13-8 forcing Claflin to call a timeout, on a Lexis Tatum kill. With the score 17-10, Claflin answered back with a 3-0 run 17-13. The Rams answered back with a 3-0 run extending their lead to 20-13 on a Malani Martin kill. The Rams closed out the set on a 5-1 run, taking set two 25-17.

In set three, the Rams began on a 7-0 run on a Panthers attack error. The Panthers answered back with a 6-1 run, making the score 10-7. WSSU went on a 5-0 run, taking a 15-9 lead with a Lexis Tatum kill. The Rams would extend their lead to 22-13 with a Malani Martin kill. WSSU took set three 25-15.

Up Next
The Lady Rams will conclude the regular season on Thursday, November 14th. The Rams will travel to Fayetteville, North Carolina, to take on Fayetteville State University. The match is set for 6:00 p.m. inside Felton J. Capel Arena.
