Rams Fall Short in Five Sets to FSU Thursday Night

Fayetteville, N.C.  – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team drop a hard-fought to Fayetteville State University in five sets 3-2 Thursday night.

The Rams moved to 14-10 (11-5 CIAA) on the season.

How It Happened vs. Fayetteville State University (25-18, 25-17, 25-23, 25-21)

In set one, the Rams began on a 6-1 run with a Jordan Johnson ace. The Broncos went on a 6-0 run, taking a 9-8 lead. FSU took a 11-8 lead. The Broncos would push their lead to 16-9. The Rams cut the lead down to 18-13 with a Lexis Tatum kill. The Rams went on a 3-0 run, making the score 19-16 on a Lexis Tatum kill. The Broncos took set one 25-18.

In set two, the Rams took an early 4-0 lead, on a Broncos attack error. The Broncos answered right back, going on a 4-0 run, tying the game 4-4.  With the score tied a 5-5 the Rams went on a 5-0 run, taking a 10-5 lead on a Lexis Tatum kill. The Rams would extend their lead to 15-7, on a Jewel Pitt ace. The Rams extended their lead to 18-8 on a Brooke Norwood ace. The Broncos went on a 3-0 run, cutting the score to 22-16. The Rams took set two 25-17.

In set three, with the score tied at 5-5 the went on 3-0 run taking a 8-5 lead on a Malani Martin kill. The Rams took a 12-9 lead on a Tiara Lindsey kill. A Broncos bad set gave the Rams a 14-10 lead forcing the Broncos to call a timeout. WSSU pushed their lead to 18-12 on a Broncos attack error. The Broncos went on 3-0, cutting the score to 19-16. FSU went on another 3-0 run, cutting the score to 22-20. Lexis Tatum answered back with a kill 23-20. The Broncos went on a 3-0 run, tying the game 23-23. The Rams took set three 25-23. 

In set four, with the score tied 2-2 the Broncos went on a 5-0 run, taking a 7-2 lead. The Rams went on a 3-0 run, cutting the score to 8-6 on a FSU error. The Rams cut the lead down to 11-10 on a bad Broncos set. The Broncos extended their lead to 16-12. The Rams went on a 3-0 run, making 16-15 on a Janai Tillman kill. The Rams tied the game 17-17, on a Broncos bad set. The Rams took a 19-18 lead, on a Brooke Norwood kill. The Broncos went on a 3-0 run, taking 21-20 lead. The Broncos took set four 25-21.

In set five, the Broncos took an early 5-1 lead. The Rams cut the lead down 5-3 on a Janai Tillman kill. The Rams cut the lead down to 7-6 on a Broncos attack error. The Rams tied the game 8-8 on another Broncos attack error. The Rams went on a 3-0 run, taking a 12-11 lead on a FSU attack error. The Broncos took set five 15-13.


Up Next
The Lady Rams will gear up for CIAA quaterfinals on Tuesday, November 19th. The Rams will travel to Bluefield, West Virginia, taking on Bluefield State University. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. inside Ned E. Shott Gym.
