Women’s Basketball Begin Conference Play Hosting Virginia Union on Thursday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C- The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team will open up conference play on Thursday, December 12th. The Lady Rams will face off with Virginia Union University, tip-off is scheduled for noon inside the C.E. Gaines Center.

Series Information vs. Virginia Union University 
Since 2006, the Panthers lead the series 13-6. The Rams haven't beaten the Panthers since 2015.

Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back six returners from last year's team. Sophomores La'Niya Simes, juniors Alexandria Warren, Jakaiya Mack, Chloe Williams, senior Christiana McLean, and graduate student Sierra Hunter.

Rams Newcomers:
During the off-season, the Rams welcomed in freshman Alana Biosse, sophomores  Khauri Little, Karina Scott, and Zion Duncan, junior Kierran Walker, and graduate students Jaleesa Lanier and Maya-Madison Walker.

CIAA Preseason/Polls
Jakaiya Mack was named to the 2024-2025 All-CIAA Women's Basketball Preseason Team Frontcourt. Mack finished last season playing in 15 games and started in 12. She averaged 23 minutes with 8 points per game, 45% FG, and 57% FT. The women were selected to finish tenth. 

Last Time Out
The Rams fell to High Point University 90-54 on Friday, December 6th. Both Jakaiya Mack & Alana Biosee scored 10 points. 

Scouting Report 
The Rams' leading scorer is Christiana McLean averaging 12.0 points a game, followed by La'Niya Simes with 8.4 points and they are averaging 61.0 points a game. 

Virginia Union University (6-3, 1-0 CIAA) 
The Panthers defeated Adelphi University 57-52 on Saturday, December 7th. The Panthers are led by Taniyah Greene with 16.9 points followed by Nevaeh Reaves with 9.4 points. Virginia Union is averaging 67.4 points per game. 

Up Next
The women will return to action on Tuesday, December 17th hosting Bowie State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center. As a reminder, all December home games will be free entry with a canned good.
