Tubbs Has Game-High as Rams Fall to Tuskegee on Day One of the Virgin Island Classic

St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, – The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team fell to Tuskegee University 71-60 on the opening day of the Virgin Islands Classic Friday afternoon.

The Rams improved to (2-5, 0-0 CIAA) on the season.

Welsey Tubbs III led the Rams with a season-high 28 points, followed by Jeremy Dixon with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Quick Inside the Numbers
The Rams went 15- of-39 from the field, 28- of-40 from the free-throw line, and 2-of–19 from three. The Rams grabbed 25 rebounds, had nine second-chance points, and scored 18 points off turnovers and 10 bench points.

How it Happened
In the first half, Jeremy Dixon put the Rams on the board 3-2 on a lay-up. A Welsey Tubbs III lay-up gave the Rams their first lead of the game 8-6. Two Tyre Boykin free-throws extended the lead to 16-11. Tuskegee went on a 7-2 run tying the game at 18-18. The Golden Tigers went on a 6-0 run, taking a 24-21 lead. Tuskegee extended their lead to 27-22. Tuskegee pushed the score to 35-25. The Golden Tigers took a 39-25 lead into halftime. 

In the second half, an Abou Camara dunk cut the Golden Tigers lead to 43-29. Wesley Tubbs III hit a huge three-pointer, making the score 44-35. Tuskegee extended the lead to 48-38 on a lay-up. A Welsey Tubbs III lay-up cut the score down to 54-46. Tuskegee went on a 5-1 run extending their lead to 63-47. A Jeremy Dixion jumper cut the lead to 67-58. The Tigers finished the game on the free-throw line and took the game 71-60.
