Women’s Basketball Wraps-Up Homestand Against UNC Pembroke Saturday Afternoon

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team will conclude their 2024 season on Saturday, December 21st, taking on UNC Pembroke. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.

Series Information vs. UNC Pembroke

This will be the second meeting between the Rams and Braves. Last season the Braves defeated the Rams in overtime 63-62 on December 9th, 2023. 

Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back six returners from last year's team: Sophomore La'Niya Simes, juniors Alexandria Warren, Jakaiya Mack, and Chloe Williams, senior Christiana McLean, and graduate student  Sierra Hunter.

Rams Newcomers:
During the off-season, the Rams welcomed in freshman Alana Biosse, sophomores  Khauri Little, Karina Scott, and Zion Duncan, junior Kierran Walker, and graduate students  Jaleesa Lanier and Maya Madison Walker.

CIAA Preseason/Polls
Jakaiya Mack was named to the 2024-2025 All-CIAA Women's Basketball Preseason Team Frontcourt. Mack finished last season playing in 15 games and started in 12. She averaged 23 minutes with 8 points per game, 45% FG, and 57% FT. The women were selected to finish tenth. 

Last Time Out 

The Rams fell to Lincoln University (Pa.) 65-45 on Thursday, December 19th. Both Jalessa Lanier and La'Niya Simes led the Rams with eight points, followed by Jakaiya Mack with seven points. 

Scouting Report 
The Rams' leading scorer is Christiana McLean averaging 10.6 points a game, followed by La'Niya Simes with 8.5 points The Rams are averaging 57.7 points a game. 

UNC Pembroke (10-2, 4-1 CC) 
The Braves fell to Davidson College 84-53 on Wednesday, December 18th. The Braves were led in scoring by Anastasia Sinclair with 12.0 points followed by Kelci Adams with 11.4 points. UNC Pembroke is averaging 65.4 points per game.

The women will begin 2025 on the road traveling to Elizabeth City, North Carolina, on Saturday, January 4th taking on Elizabeth City State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
