INDIANAPOLIS, I.N.– The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team overwhelms Virginia Union 64-47 in the NBA HBCU Classic, inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Winston-Salem State played in the third edition of the HBCU Classic and the first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) to win it.
The Rams improved to (17-8, 10-5 CIAA).
Ketron "KC" Shaw led the Rams with 15 points.
Jaylen Alston recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Isaac Parson also recorded a double-double with 12 points with 11 assists and
Jaylin Parker chipped in with 11 points.
Quick Inside the Numbers
The Rams went 25 -of-56 from the field, 8-of-13 from the free-throw line, and 6-of–13 from three. They scored 28 points in the paint, and 11 second-chance points. The Rams grabbed 37 rebounds and scored 17 points off turnovers and 15 bench points. The Rams also dished out 20 assists.
In the first half, the Rams took an early 6-0 lead on an
Imajae Dodd monster dunk with 17:02 left.
Jaylin Parker made the score 9-3 on a three-pointer with 14:01 remaining. The Panthers closed the Rams' lead to two points 9-7 with 12:28 left.
Jaylen Alston pushed the lead back to four points on a lay-up, 11-7 with 11:11 remaining. Down by one point 22-21, Ketron "KC" Shaw put the Rams back in front 23-22 on a lay-up with 3:56 left. The Panthers regained the lead 24-23 with 3:27 remaining. The Rams closed out the half on a 10-0 run highlighted by a
Jaylin Parker three-pointer with five seconds remaining. The Rams took a 33-24 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers cut the lead to five points 33-28 with 17:34 remaining.
Jaylen Alston extended the lead back to eight points 36-28 on a lay-up with 16:18 left. The Rams went on a 6-0 run pushing out their lead to 14 points 46-32 with 12:03 left. An
Isaac Parson three-pointer highlighted this run, which made the score 45-32 with 12:47 remaining. The Panthers cut the Rams' lead to eight, 48-40 with 9:26 remaining. With 9:02 left the Rams went on an 11-0 run pushing the score to 61-40, on an
Isaac Parson three-pointer with 3:40 left.
