Alston Has a Double-Double as Men’s Basketball Close Out Regular Season with Win Over Livingstone

SALISBURY N.C.– The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team overpowers Livingstone College 77-57 Saturday evening inside New Trent Gymnasium. 
 
 The Rams improved to (19-8, 13-5 CIAA).
 
Jaylen Alston led the Rams with a double-double, 21 points and 11 rebounds. Jeremy Dixon scored 12 points, followed by Ketron "KC" Shaw and Isaac Parson with 10 points each. Parson also dished out six assists. 
 
Quick Inside the Numbers
The Rams went 26- of-52 from the field, 18-of -23 from the free-throw line, and 7-of–20 from three.  They scored 28 points in the paint, and 18 fast-break points. The Rams grabbed 35 rebounds and scored 18 points off turnovers and 20 bench points.
 
In the first half, Ketron "KC" Shaw got the Rams on the board with a jumper at the 19:43 mark. Jaylin Parker pushed the Rams lead to 7-2 on a three-pointer with 16:40 remaining. With the Blue Bears up 15-14, Jeremy Dixon put the Rams back in front 16-15 on a jumper with 8:29 left. Isaac Parson then extended the lead to 19-15 Rams on a three-pointer with 7:48 remaining. The Blue Bears went on a 5-0 run regaining the lead with 7:13 left. Daylin Brandon answered back with a jumper putting the Rams back ahead 21-20 with 6:35 remaining in the first half. With the score 25-23 Blue Bears, Jaylen Alston connected on two free throws tying the game at 25 with 4:46 on the clock. With the Blue Bears up 30-27 with 3:45 left, the Rams closed out the half on a 13-0 run highlighted by a Jaylen Alston lay-up with 17 seconds remaining. The Rams took a 40-30 lead into halftime. 
 
In the second half, Jaylen Alston extended the lead to 45-30 with a dunk with 17:15 to play. Jaylen Parker pushed the lead to 52-34 on a three-pointer with 14:20 remaining. Devon Bristow extended the lead 53-34 on a free-throw with 13:32. The Blue Bears cut the Rams lead to 12 points 56-44 with 10:46 left. Jeremy Dixon pushed the lead back to 15 points on a three-pointer 62-47 with 7:44 remaining. The Blue Bears cut the lead down to 10 points 62-52 with 6:16 left. Jeremy Dixon answered with another three-pointer, 65-52. With the score 65-54, the Rams outscored the Blue Bears, 12-3 for the remainder of the game.

The Rams will be back in action at the CIAA tournament in Baltimore, Maryland February 26 – March 2.
