WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University softball team drops two doubleheaders to Mount Olive and Concord this week.
The Rams are now 1-8 this season.
In game one against UMO on this past Thursday, the Rams fell 6-3, then dropped the second game 12-0.
Game 1
UMO took an early 5-0 lead after scoring two runs in the top of the first and three runs in the top of the fourth.
Tyeisha Gist hit a single to left field scoring Tymiah Winbush, then
Malia Simmons reached base on an error which advanced the baserunners scoring Gist and a double to right field from
Aniyah Jackson scored Simmons to bring the score 5-3. UMO scored one more run in the top of the seventh to take the victory.
Bre'Anna Steele pitched the entire game.
Game 2
UMO scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead over the Rams. They then added a run in the top of the fourth inning. Later in the game, they added nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the game.
Jyla Thomas pitched the entire game with five strikeouts.
Today, the Rams dropped both games against Concord. In game one the final score was 5-2, then they won the second game 8-3.
Game 1 vs Concord
Concord had an early 3-0 lead after three innings. The Rams got on board in the bottom of the fourth after an RBI single from Bre'Anna Steel. Concord added two more runs in the top of the sixth. WSSU tried to rally back but only scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Steel pitched the entire game with six strikeouts.
Game 2 vs Concord
Tyeisha Gist hit her first homerun of the season to put the Rams on the board first. They added to more runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Unfortunately, Concord took the lead after the third inning after scoring a run in the top of the first and added six more runs in the top of the third to take a 7-3 lead over the Rams. Concord scored one more run in the top of the sixth to make the game 8-3.
Jyla Thomas pitched six innings with seven strikeouts and Bre'Anna Steel pitched an inning and had one strikeout.
The Rams will be back in action on March 2nd, at Mars Hill University in Mars Hill North Carolina. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
