Softball Defeats Voorhees on Senior Day

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University softball extended their win streak to 14 after sweeping Voorhees on Saturday afternoon at Twin Cities Ball Field. 

The Rams move 17-18 (12- 4 CIAA, 10-0 SD) on the season. 

How it Happened - Game 1 

The Rams took an early 4-0 lead over the Tigers after the first inning. WSSU added four additional runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Tigers would add a run in the top of the third inning, but the Rams would double it and score two runs in the bottom of the third. BreAnna Steele would secure the win for the Rams by catching a pop up and getting the final out. Rams win 10-2 against the Tigers. 

BreAnna Steele pitched the entire game moving to 7-8 on the season and she recorded three strikeouts. 

How it Happened – Game 2 

With an RBI single Malia Simmons  scoring Aniyah Jackson from third, following Taisha Bratton  RBI double bringing Malia Simmons  home Rams take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Miranda Wilson single to center field brings 2 runs in from second and third bases. Bringing the Rams lead to 4-0 against the Tigers. Jyla Thomas would secure the win in the 7th inning by striking out the last batter. 

Jyla Thomas  pitched the entire game moving 6-3 on the season she recorded ten strikeouts. 

WSSU will be back in action on Friday, May 3rd against Virginia Union University at 12 p.m. at the CIAA  tournament in Glen Allen, VA.
