WSSU Football Defeat Ohio Dominican on Saturday Night’s Home Opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For a second week in a row, the Winston-Salem State University football team went into overtime, but this time the Rams came out on top defeating Ohio Dominican 19-13 inside Bowman Gray Stadium.

The Rams improved to 2-1 (0-0 CIAA), while the Panthers moved to 0-2 on the season.

How it Happened
  • The Rams got on the scoreboard first with an 8-yard pass to Kaleb Washington, the extra point was good, and the Rams took an early 7-0 lead with 10:08 to play in the first quarter.
  • In the second quarter, kicker Gilberto Lorenzana had a 23-yard field goal to give the Rams a 10-0 lead, with 4:32 left to play in the half.
  • David Eldridge IV with a huge block on the Panthers' attempted field goal sent the Rams into the half leading 10-0.
  • The Panthers got on the board in the third quarter on a pass to Jayden Cornell, as they trailed WSSU 10-7 with 10:33 left to play.
  • Gilberto Lorenzana had a 19-yard field goal to put the Rams up 13-7 with 5:42 to play in the third quarter.
  • The Panthers tied the game in the fourth quarter, 13-13 on a 1-yard run from Drew Gallehue with 10:32 remaining.
  • In overtime, Jamieson Alston had a huge interception to give the Rams the ball back, which eventually led to Trevon Hester with a three-yard run to seal the game for Winston and claim the 19-13 overtime victory.
