Women’s Basketball Hosts Fayetteville State Monday, Travel to Shaw Wednesday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team will welcome in conference rival Fayetteville State University, on Monday, January 20th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center. 

The Lady Rams will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, on Wednesday, January 22nd taking on Shaw University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. inside the C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

Series Information vs. Fayetteville State University
Since 2005 this will be the 29th matchup between Fayetteville and Winston. The Broncos have led the series 16-13. The Broncos are currently on a four-game-winning streak. Last time out, the Broncos defeated the Rams 48-47 on February 15th, 2024.  
 
Series Information vs. Shaw University
Since 2006 this will be the 30th match-up between the Rams and Bears. The Bears currently lead the series 19-10. The Bears took both games last season. Last time, the Bears defeated the Rams 57-47 on February 22nd, 2024. 

Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back six returners from last year's team. Sophomores La'Niya Simes, juniors Alexandria Warren, Jakaiya Mack, Chloe Williams, senior Christiana McLean, and graduate students Sierra Hunter and Tolisha Walker

Rams Newcomers:
During the off-season, the Rams welcomed in freshman Alana Biosse, sophomores  Khauri Little, Karina Scott, and Zion Duncan, junior Kierran Walker, and graduate students Jaleesa Lanier and Maya-Madison Walker.

CIAA Preseason/Polls
Jakaiya Mack was named to the 2024-2025 All-CIAA Women's Basketball Preseason Team Frontcourt. Mack finished last season playing in 15 games and started in 12. She averaged 23 minutes with 8 points per game, 45% FG, and 57% FT. The women were selected to finish tenth. 

Last Time Out 
The Rams fell to Claflin University 57-55 on Saturday, January 18th. Jakaiya Mack led the Rams with 14 points, followed by Chloe Williams with 11 points, and Maya Madison-Walker chipped in with 11 rebounds. 

Scouting Report 
The Rams' leading scorer is Christiana McLean averaging 10.3 points a game, followed by La'Niya Simes with 7.7 points The Rams are averaging 56.0 points a game. 

Fayetteville State University (10-6, 5-2 CIAA, 2-0 South) 
The Broncos defeated Shaw University 65-51 on Thursday, January 16th. The Broncos are led in scoring by Talia Trotter with 13.3 points and Keayna McLaughlin with 10.9 points. Fayetteville State is averaging 65.7 points per game. 

Shaw University (5-11, 2-5 CIAA, 0-2 South) 
The Bears fell to Livingstone College 74-51 on Saturday, January 18th. As of January 18th, the Bears are led in scoring by D' Ayzha Akinson with 12.9 points followed by Zaniyyah Ross-Barnes  with 11.0 points. Shaw is averaging 59.2 points per game.
