WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team fell in overtime 67-64 to Virginia Union on Monday night inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
The Rams move to 3-14 (0-6 CIAA, 0-2 South).
Micah Jones led the Rams with 22 points followed by
Tyre Boykin with 20. Defensively,
Abou Camara had 11 rebounds and six blocks.
How it Happened
WSSU led the Panthers 7-2 in the opening minutes of the contest. Virginia Union took an 14-12 lead with 10:25 remaining in the first half. The Panthers went up five, at the under eight media timeout (19-14). Winston regained the lead 20-19 with 5:43 left.
The Rams went into halftime trailing 29-25.
Micah Jones hit a three to bring the Rams within one, 29-28 with 18:39 to play in the game. He then hit back-to back three to give the Rams a 34-31 lead with 15:51 remaining in the game. WSSU went up five after the under 12 media timeout leading 44-39.
The Panthers came within one, but Jones put the Rams back up three, 60-57 with 1:45 to play. The panthers hit a three to tie the game 60-60 with under a minute remaining.
The Panthers overcame the Rams winning by three points.
WSSU will be back in action on Thursday, January 30 at Johnson C. Smith at 7:30 p.m. inside Brayboy gymnasium.
