Women’s Basketball to Play Virginia University of Lynchburg Monday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team will host non-conference opponent Virginia University of Lynchburg, on Monday, January 27th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the Rams and Dragons. 
 
Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back six returners from last year's team. Sophomores La'Niya Simes, juniors Alexandria Warren, Jakaiya Mack, Chloe Williams, senior Christiana McLean, and graduate students  Sierra Hunter and Tolisha Walker

Rams Newcomers:
During the off-season, the Rams welcomed in freshman Alana Biosse, sophomores Khauri Little, Karina Scott, Zion Duncan, juniors Kierran Walker, Jahmaria Miles, and graduate students Jaleesa Lanier and Maya-Madison Walker.

CIAA Preseason/Polls
Jakaiya Mack was named to the 2024-2025 All-CIAA Women's Basketball Preseason Team Frontcourt. Mack finished last season playing in 15 games and started in 12. She averaged 23 minutes with 8 points per game, 45% FG, and 57% FT. The women were selected to finish tenth. 

Last Time Out 
The Rams defeated Shaw University 62-58 in overtime on Wednesday, January 22nd Jakaiya Mack led the Rams with 19 points, followed by Christana McLean with a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and La'Niya Simes with 15 points. 

Scouting Report 
The Rams' leading scorer is Christiana McLean averaging 9.9 points a game, followed by La'Niya Simes with 7.7 points The Rams are averaging 55.8 points a game. 

Virginia University of Lynchburg (1-10 Overall) 
The Dragons fell to Shaw University 76-23 on Sunday, January 19th. The Dragons were led in scoring by Zaria Simmons & Aalyssa Rogers with six points each. Virginia University of Lynchburg is averaging 55.1 points per game.

The women will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on CIAA opponent Johnson C. Smith on Thursday, January 30 at 5:30 p.m. inside Brayboy Gymnasium.
