CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team fell 58-53 to Johnson C. Smith on Thursday night inside Brayboy Gymnasium.
The Rams move to (5-14, 1-8 CIAA, 1-3 South) on the season.
Christiana McLean led the Rams with 21 points, followed by
Chloe Williams and
Alana Biosse with six points each.
How it Happened
JCSU opened the first quarter on an 9-0 run. Christinia McLean scored the first basket for the Rams, (9-2) with 6:04 to play. The Golden Bulls ended the first quarter up 16-7.
In the second quarter, the Rams trailed by 11, 21-11 with 4:55 to play in the half.
Chloe Williams hit a pair of free throws to bring the Rams with eight with 4:32 on the clock.
Khauri Little hit a big three to make the score 21-15 (4:01).
Karina Scott hit a two pointer with 1:13 remaining in the half to bring the Rams within three, 25-21. WSSU went into halftime trailing 28-22.
Back-to-back baskets to start the third quarter tied the game at 28, with 9:00 to play in the quarter. JCSU went on an 9-0 run to take a 37-28 lead. With 4:53 left to play in the quarter, the Rams were down seven, 37-30. McLean hit back-to -back jumpers to bring the Rams within five with 2:14 to play in the quarter. JCSU led 45-38 going into the fourth quarter.
JCSU took a ten-point lead with 6:10 to play in the game. The Golden Bulls led 49-42 at the last media timeout. A steal by
Alana Biosse and a made lay-up from
Tolisha Walker put the Rams with five with 3:59 remaining.
Karina Scott hit a three-pointer, 53-49 with 1:10 left in the game. A pair of free-throws from McLean put the Rams within three, 55-51. JCSU won the game
