WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University football team fought hard but dropped its second home game 44-34 to Virginia Union Saturday afternoon.
The Rams are now 3-3 overall (1-2 CIAA).
Inside the Numbers
- Daylin Lee was 16-for-32 for 278 yards and three passing touchdowns.
- JaQuan Kelly rushed for seven attempts for 80 yards.
- Jahari Mitchell had five receptions for 151 yards and three touchdowns.
- Defensively, Evan Powell had 15 tackles (6 solo, 9 assists).
- Terrell Chance had one interception for six yards.
- For Union, Curtis Allen rushed 34 times for 255 yards.
How it Happened
- The Panthers got on board first with a run from Curtis Allen to take a 7-0 lead.
- They increased their lead to 14-0 with 2:33 to play in the first quarter. The Panthers went into the second quarter leading 16-0.
- Terrell Chance had an interception with 11:47to play in the second quarter.
- Daylin Lee had a 36-yard to pass to Jahari Mitchell to put the Rams on board, trailed 23-7 with 7:28 to play in the first half.
- Union scored with 3:49 to play in the second quarter to make the game 30-7.
- Lee had another 19-yard pass to Mitchell with 2:15 to play in the second quarter as the Rams trailed 30-14.
- JaQuan Kelly had a 62-yard run with 13:25 to play in the third quarter as the Rams trailed 30-21.
- Curtis Allen had a 42-yard run for a touchdown to give the Panthers a score of 37-21. Then a 1-yard from RJ Rosales gave the Panthers a 44-21 score.
- The Rams scored another touchdown with 10:10 to play in the fourth quarter. Rams tailed 44-27.
- Lee had another pass to Mitchell for 27-yards to make the score 44-34 with 6:20 to play in the game.
