Men’s Basketball Fought Hard in Loss to Shepherd Saturday Evening

Ettrick, V.A.– The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team fell to Shepherd University 63-52, inside the Multipurpose Center. 

 The Rams moved to (0-2, 0-0 CIAA).

Tyre Boykin led the Rams with 16 points, followed by Abou Camara with eight points and 11 rebounds.

Quick Inside the Numbers

The Rams went 20-of-51 from the field, 2-of-8 from three, and 8-of-13  from the free-throw line. The Rams grabbed 27 rebounds, 34 points in the paint, 16 bench points. 

How It Happened 

In the first half, the Rams took an early 6-2 lead on a Abou Camara dunk (17:30).  Shepherd went on a 5-0 run, taking a 7-6 lead on a three-pointer (13:40). A Ethan English lay-up gave the Rams a 13-11 (10;38). Shepherd went on a 6-0 run, giving them a 19-15 lead on a three-pointer (7:03). A 5-0 run put the Rams back in front 20-19, on a Demetri Patterson three-pointer (5:35). Shepherd went on a 11-0 run, extending their lead to 30-20 on a three-pointer (2:49). Shepherd took a 34-25 into halftime. 

In the second half, WSSU went on a 6-0 run, cutting the lead to 35-30 on a Lance Gill jumper (18:00). Shepherd went on a 7-0 run, extending their lead to 42-30 on a dunk (14:51). A Tyre Boykin three-pointer cut the score to 44-35 (12:30).  Two free-throws Ethan English trimmed the score to 47-39 (8:25). The Rams went on a 8-2 run, cutting the lead down to 54-50 on aTyre Boykin and-one (3:21). Shepherd closed out the game on a 11-2 run.

The Rams will gear up for their home opener on Tuesday, November 18th, taking on Virginia University of Lynchburg. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
