MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University softball team fell to Kutztown and Mount Olive on the final day of the UMO Round Robin.
The Rams move to 2-4 on the season.
How it Happened – Game 1
Kutztown took an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning after hitting a home run. They added three more runs in the top of the second inning to take an 8-0 lead.
Makayla Vinson hit her second home run this season to cut into the Bears lead. KU added two more runs in the top of the third and fourth innings to seal the deal. The Rams did score one more run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kutztown took the game 12-2.
BreAnna Steel pitched 1.1 innings with two strikeouts and
Nevaeh Cruz pitched 3.2 innings with one strikeout.
How it Happened – Game 2
The Rams kept it interesting on the final day of the round-robin playing host school Mount Olive. They got on the board first in the top of the third inning after
Makayla Vinson hit a double. The Trojans answered back scoring two runs in the bottom of the third. WSSU tied the game in the top of the fifth inning on a single from
Aaliyah Rodriguez. UMO took the go-ahead lead and the 3-2 game in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Jyla Thomas pitched 5.0 innings with two strikeouts and
Nevaeh Cruz pitched 1.0 innings.
WSSU will be back in action on March 7 hosting Chowan for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
