Rams Picks-Up First Conference Win Against Shaw Friday Night

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.– The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team earned its first conference win versus Shaw University 83-68, inside the C.E. Gaines Center. 
 
 The Rams improved to (4-21, 1-13 CIAA, 1-8 South) on the season.
 
Tyre Boykin led the Rams with 18 points, followed by Lance Gill with 15 points, Masaun Moore-Byrant with 12 points and Khyelle Ingram chipped in with 11 points.
 
Quick Inside the Numbers
The Rams went 28-of-58 from the field, 9-of-13 from three, and 18-of-28 from the free-throw line. The Rams grabbed 42 rebounds, scored 38 points in the paint and 25 fast break points. 
 
How It Happened 
In the first half, the Bears took an early 5-0 lead (18:59). The Rams went on a 9-2 run, taking a 9-7 on a Tyre Boykin lay-up (15:59). The Rams went on a 10-0 run, extending their lead to 21-12 on an Khyelle Ingram three-pointer (8:19).  Tyre Boykin extended the Rams lead to 28-18, on a three-pointer (4:15). The Rams took a 31-25 lead into halftime. 
 
In the second half, the Rams went on a 12-0 run, extending their lead to 45-25 on a Tyre Boykin free-throw (16:10). The Bears went on a 10-0 run, cutting the Rams lead to 45-35 (14:04). The Bears cut the score to 47-40 (11:50). The Rams went on a 11-0 run, extending their lead to 60-49 on a Masaun Moore-Byrant free-throw (7:03). The Bears couldn't cut the deficit under 15 points for the remainder of the game.

The men will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, February 22nd, hosting Livingstone College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The theme is Black Out/Senior Day/Horn$ Appreciation.
