WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team fall to Shaw University 68-58, inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
The Rams moved to (7-18, 3-12 CIAA, 2-6 South) on the season.
Christiana McLean led the Rams with 17 points, followed by
La'Niya Simes with 14 points.
How It Happened
In the first quarter, the Bears took an early 5-0 lead (8:53). A
Kierran Walker three-pointer made the score 5-3 (8:33). Shaw went on an 8-2 run, extending their lead to 13-5 (5:32). The Rams answered back with a 6-2 run, cutting the score to 15-11 on two
La'Niya Simes free-throws (2:11).
Tolisha Walker made the score 17-14, on a lay-up with 33 seconds remaining in the quarter. The Bears took a 17-14 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, a
Christiana McLean lay-up trimmed the score 19-18 (7:22). The Bears went on a 10-3 run, extending their lead to 29-21 (3:04). An
Alexandria Warren lay-up stopped the run, making the score 29-23 (2;44).
Karina Scott cut the score to 30-27, on a three-pointer with 25 seconds remaining in the quarter. The Bears took a 31-28 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Bears pushed their lead to 39-32 (6:16). The Rams went on a 5-0 run, trimming the lead to 39-37 on a
La'Niya Simes jumper (5:07). Shaw closed out the quarter on a 9-0 run, taking a 48-37 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Shaw pushed their lead to 52-40 (7:19). The Rams cut the score to 56-47 on a
Christiana McLean jumper (5:07). With the score 58-47 the Rams went on a 9-2 run, trimming the score to 60-56 on two Christiana free-throws (2:15). A
