ELIZABETH CITY, NC – The Winston-Salem State University softball team swept Elizabeth City State University in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams won game one, 8-3 and game two 12-4 to move to 5-5 on the season.
How it Happened – Game 1
The Rams got on board first with a run in the top of the third inning. The Vikings answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead. The bats remained hot for the Rams in the top of the fourth inning as they scored four more runs to take a 5-2 lead. WSSU added another run in the top of the fifth (6-2). Winston added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh even though the Vikings scored a run in the bottom.
BreAnna Steel pitched the entire game with two strikeouts and moved to 1-1 on the season.
How it Happened- Game 2
WSSU came out swinging right from the first pitch scoring nine runs in the top of the first inning. ECSU scored a run in the bottom of the second inning, (9-1). WSSU added a run in the top of the third to take a 10-1 lead. The Vikings scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. WSSU added a run in the top of the sixth and seventh inning to win the game 12-4.
Nevaeh Cruz pitched 6.0 innings with two strikeouts and
Jyla Thomas pitched 1.0 inning with two strikeouts.
WSSU will be back in action on March 20-22 at the CIAA roundup hosted by Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
