RALEIGH – The Winston-Salem State University softball team took extra innings to defeat Elizabeth City State 8-7 on Thursday afternoon of the CIAA Roundup.
The Rams move to 6-5 (1-0 CIAA) on the season.
How it Happened – vs. ECSU
WSSU got on the scoreboard early in the bottom of the first inning taking a 4-0 lead over the Vikings. ECSU cut into the lead scoring a run in the top of the third inning. The Rams added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead. The Vikings added two runs in both the top of the fifth and sixth inning to tie the game at 5-5 and send the game into extra innings. Both teams added a run in the eighth inning to send the game into the ninth inning. The game was tied at 7-7 going into the bottom of the tenth inning and
Jai'Nasia Baliey hit a sac fly to give the Rams the victory.
BreAnna Steele pitched 6.0 innings with three strikeouts and
Jyla Thomas earned the win pitching 4.0 innings with six strikeouts.
As game two got underway versus Bluefield State the Rams had a 5-4 lead going into the top of the fifth inning as inclement weather postponed the game to March 21 at noon.
The rest of the games scheduled for March 21
st will take place at 3:30pm (Virginia Union) and 8:00 pm (Bowie State).
