ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Winston-Salem State University softball (19-11,11-5) team played two games at the Orangeburg Recreational & Parks on Thursday.
During game one, they fell to Lincoln (Pa) 3-2 to fall to the loser's bracket and had to play Shaw University. They defeated Shaw 10-4 to advance to the next round on Friday, May 2
nd.
The Rams will first take on Virginia State at 10:00 am.
How it Happened – Lincoln
The Lions struck early in the second inning. In the third inning, Lincoln extended their lead to 3–0. The Rams responded in the fourth inning cutting the lead to 3-1. WSSU mounted a late rally in the seventh adding a run, but the Lions took the game.
How it Happened – Shaw
Shaw took an early two nothing lead before the Rams scored two runs to tie the game. Shaw had a 4-2 lead before the Rams answered back with six unanswered runs to take the game.
Jyla Thomas pitched a complete game, earning the win with a strong performance on the mound. Offensively, the Rams amassed 12 hits, with M. Vinson contributing multiple RBIs and scoring runs
