Rams Host Livingstone for CIAA Showdown on Greek Night

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's volleyball team (11-5, 8-2 CIAA) will host Livingstone College for a greek night on Thursday, Oct. 8th, at 6 p.m., inside Whitaker Gymnasium.

Coming out of the CIAA Round-Up, the Rams put on a real show! Closing out 5-1, the Rams left it all on the court and swept through Virginia Union and Bowie State. Each game was intense and long, with all eyes on them. As the hosting team, the Rams had a big expectation to meet, and it was met with flying colors.

CIAA Round-Up Recap For The Rams
The Rams closed out CIAA Round-Up #1 with a strong finish, earning two straight-set victories over Bowie State and Virginia Union.

WSSU opened the day with a 3-0 win over Bowie State, taking the sets 25-21, 25-23 and 25-17 before finishing the weekend with another 3-0 sweep over Virginia Union, winning 25-23, 25-8 and 25-18. Holiday Ellis led the Rams against Virginia Union with 21 kills, two service aces and 23 points, while Kalyn Cuthbertson added 14 digs and three assists. Zaria Keys recorded 18 assists and nine digs, while Aria Caldwell contributed seven kills and 10 digs. Against Bowie State, Kamiyah Wilson and Ellis each finished with 11 kills, while Keys recorded 16 assists and Cuthbertson added 10 digs. Senior Jewel Pitt also reached a major milestone, recording her 1,000th career dig in the win over Virginia Union. Congratulations Jewel!

These victories moved the Rams to 11-5 overall and 7-2 in CIAA play, while finishing the CIAA Round-Up #1 with a 5-1 record.

Keeping Eyes On LC
Livingstone College enters the matchup with a 14-4 overall record and a 7-2 mark in CIAA play. The Blue Bears have recorded 812 kills through 66 sets, averaging 12.30 kills, 11.26 assists, 1.89 service aces, 14.97 digs and 1.83 blocks per set. Livingstone is hitting .219 as a team. The Blue Bears have also totaled 125 service aces, 988 digs and 121 total blocks this season. Livingstone enters the matchup after earning a 3-0 victory over Shaw University on Oct. 4, winning 25-22, 25-23 and 25-21. In the game, the Blue Bears recorded 44 kills, 38 assists, 39 digs and a .314 hitting percentage.

The Rams will return to the court once again to play Bluefield State on Oct. 12, at 6 PM, inside Ned Shott Gymnasium in Bluefield, W.V.
