WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (July 17, 2026) – Eight Winston-Salem State University student-athletes and coaches have been named nominees for the 2026 HBCU Sports Awards, representing the Rams in eight individual award categories.
HBCU Sports announced the nominees on Tuesday, July 14. The annual awards program recognizes outstanding accomplishments by student-athletes, coaches, administrators and athletic programs throughout the HBCU sports landscape.

The eight nominations highlight WSSU's success across volleyball, women's basketball, men's golf, and women's track and field. Six Ram student-athletes received individual recognition, while Terry and Brown were nominated for their leadership of the women's basketball and volleyball programs, respectively.
"The nominations are a testament to the time, energy, and effort they've put into making HBCU athletics the gem that it is," HBCU Sports Founding Editor and Publisher Kenn Rashad said.
The awards ceremony recognizes excellence across football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, golf, track and field, cross country, bowling, and volleyball. The program will also honor achievements in athletics administration, media relations, broadcasting, and HBCU band culture.
The Third Annual HBCU Sports Awards is presented by The Godsey Law Firm, the National College Resources Foundation, and Busey Bank.
The awards show will stream live on the HBCU Sports YouTube channel on Saturday, July 25, at 3 p.m. ET.
