WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State University is back in the national spotlight after NBA legend Chris Paul's WSSU degree was featured in a clue on ESPN's new sports-themed version of "Jeopardy!"

Hosted by Joe Buck, "ESPN Jeopardy!" premiered July 31 and is available to stream on Disney+, Hulu, the ESPN App and the ESPN streaming hub. Episode 2 features a clue about Paul's 2022 bachelor's degree in mass communications, which he earned from Winston-Salem State University.

Known to basketball fans as "CP3," Paul grew up in Lewisville, just outside Winston-Salem, before starring at Wake Forest University and embarking on a 21-year NBA career. His connection to WSSU extends well beyond his degree. His parents, Charles Edward Paul and Robin Jones, are WSSU alumni, and he grew up attending Rams football and basketball games.

Paul has long described WSSU as near and dear to his heart. With parents, cousins and other family members who attended the university, supporting the Rams has always been second nature. That lifelong connection has fueled his commitment to historically Black colleges and universities through initiatives that elevate HBCUs on the national stage. He executive produced ESPN's "Why Not Us" documentary series highlighting HBCU athletics and founded the Chris Paul HBCU Tip-Off.

This week, Paul announced the third annual Toyota Chris Paul HBCU Classic with WSSU among four HBCUs selected to compete in the tournament to be held in Washington, D.C., this December. Through the Chris Paul Family Foundation and other philanthropic initiatives, Paul continues to invest in educational opportunity, leadership development and the advancement of HBCUs.
