WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Keoshia Worthy (So./Augusta, GA) led three Lady Rams in double-figure scoring on Saturday afternoon at the C.E. Gaines Center as WSSU defeated Pfeiffer in non-conference women's basketball action by the score of 66-52.
Though it took the Lady Rams over four minutes to record their first field goal of the contest, WSSU was able to jump out ahead of the Falcons en route to a two-point lead at the halftime intermission as Winston-Salem State led 30-28.
The second half of play was one that was a see-saw battle throughout as the two teams traded baskets though the lead would change hands only twice.
Turnovers, and the points generated from them, would prove to be the difference in the contest during the second 20 minutes of play as WSSU forced 17 Pfeiffer giveaways which they turned into 19 points to cruise to the win.
WSSU was paced by Worthy who was one of three Lady Rams in double-figures as Janet Robinson (Sr./Durham, NC) chipped in with 13 points and Latoya Armstrong (Jr./Rocky Mount, NC) added 11 points in the win.
Pfeiffer was led by freshman sensation YaRiah Bell who tallied a game-high 21 points on nine-of-16 shooting from the field as she and teammate Cathi Kennings (12 points) were the only two Falcons to break into double-digits.
With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 4-5 overall (0-1 CIAA) while Pfeiffer falls to 4-5 overall with the loss.
WSSU returns to action on Monday evening at 6:00 pm in the C.E. Gaines Center as they play host to Lenoir-Rhyne College in the last game before the Lady Rams enter their 14-day Holiday Break.
