INSTITUTE, WV - The Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University were no match for fifth-ranked Charleston on Friday evening as WSSU dropped a 92-64 decision in first-round action from the Red Roof Women's Basketball Classic in Institute West Virginia.
The Lady Rams shot a chilly 31.9% from the field in the contest as they would connect on only 28 of their 83 total field goal attempts in the loss.
Conversely, fifth-ranked Charleston hit 31 of their 61 field goal attempts as they turned in a shooting percentage of 60.8% in the victory.
The Lady Rams were led by Janet Robinson who turned in a team-high 18 points in the loss as she led three WSSU players in double figures. Joining Robinson in double figures were Shalonda Carter and Tiffany Tonkins who recorded 15 and 10 points respectively.
Charleston was led by Lisa Lee who recorded a game-high 20 points in the win.
WSSU falls to 5-6 on the season with the loss and will look to even their record at 6-6 overall on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm as they face off against host-team West Virginia State.
