Lady Rams Softball Blows Past Falcons 13-0 In Four Innings

March 14, 2006

Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem State University scored 13 runs on 11 hits and benefited from four Lady Falcon errors on Tuesday afternoon at Southpark Field as the Lady Rams softball team handed Saint Augustine's College a 13-0 defeat in only four and a half innings, encompassing only 1:25 minutes of playing time, in the first game of a CIAA softball league doubleheader from Winston-Salem, NC.

After a relatively quiet first inning, the Lady Rams put up seven runs on five hits in the second inning of play as they jumped out ahead of the Lady Falcons 7-0.

The Lady Rams added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and WSSU starting pitcher Amber Shore retired the side in the top of the fifth as WSSU cruised to the mercy-rule victory.

Shore pitched a complete-game, one-hitter as she struck out seven of the 15 batters that she faced, while walking only two batters in a contest where no Saint Augustine's base-runner would advance past first base.

With the win, Shore improves to 4-5 overall on the season and moves to a flawless 3-0 in the CIAA.  She helped her own cause in the contest as she would turn in a one-for-two performance at the plate collecting three runs-batted-in and scoring a run herself.

Shore was joined by Kendall Sutton who recorded two hits in three at-bats with three RBI's and a run scored as the pair led seven Lady Ram hitters with at least one hit.

WSSU improves to 7-9 overall with the win, and moves to 5-0 in the CIAA (1-0 CIAA West) with the victory.

The two teams return to action at 3:00 pm in the second game of the doubleheader with Elyon Taylor taking the hill for the Lady Rams.
