WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The win streak continues as the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University earned a 6-0 win over visiting Virginia Union University in CIAA softball league action on Saturday afternoon at Southpark Field by the score of 6-0.
The Lady Rams got on the scoreboard early in the contest as WSSU earned one of their six runs in the bottom of the first inning as Leslie Hollis' single drove in L'Tisha Bell to give the host-team an early 1-0 lead.
That lead would be all that WSSU starting pitcher Amber Shore would need as she allowed only two hits in the contest, turning in seven strong innings en route her fifth win of the season.
Shore turned in four hitless innings before giving up a single in the top of the fifth inning that broke up the no-hitter. Following the single, Shore struck out the side as she earned 12 strike outs in the contest. The win moves her to 5-7 overall as she improves to a perfect 5-0 in the CIAA.
The Lady Rams earned five more runs in the bottom of the third inning as WSSU scored six runs on seven hits in the contest, and benefited from three VUU errors, all while holding the Lady Panthers scoreless.
WSSU moves to 11-13 overall with the win, and improves to 9-0 in the CIAA in the process. The two teams return to action at 2:00 pm in the second game of the doubleheader.
