WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Despite turning in their best match of the season, the Winston-Salem State University men's tennis team fell in defeat to the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb University under the lights at the WSSU Tennis Complex on Saturday evening.
The Rams checked in with their best doubles performance of the season as GWU's Andre Veeder and Grant Van Rensberg needed 12 games to defeat WSSU's Brian Coxton and Ian Hunter at first doubles, 8-4.
Second doubles action saw the most exciting match of the day as WSSU's Maximilian Glodde and Troy Moore nearly defeated Jamie Lawlor and Ryan Bernthal before dropping a 9-7 decision.
GWU swept the doubles matches as Taylor Ferrier and Joshua Ray defeated Ryan Lindquist and Patrick Jenkins, 8-5.
Singles action was unkind to the Rams as WSSU recorded victories in only 14 games as the Runnin' Bulldogs earned straight-set sweeps at all six singles positions en route to a 7-0 victory.
The Rams fall to 0-7 overall with the loss while Gardner-Webb improves to 3-4 with the victory.
Winston-Salem State returns to action at 9:00 am on Sunday as they face the Indians of Catawba College at the WSSU Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, NC.
