WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (14-9, 11-3 CIAA) moved one match closer in their chase for the 2011 CIAA Southern Division title with a three-set win over the Shaw Lady Bears (3-16, 3-15 CIAA), Monday evening. With the win, the Lady Rams keep their hunt for at least a share of the 2011 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division title alive.
The Lady Rams gave a great effort in all three sets of the match to fend off a Shaw team got better through every set of the match. In the end, the Lady Rams ended the evening with the 25-18, 25-20, and 25-13 win in the match. The team gave a tremendous overall effort in the match with 44 total kills in 101 attacks and 43 digs. WSSU sophomore Avoni Seymour powered the WSSU effort with a team-high 10 kills in the match along with eight digs. She tied junior Francesca Edgerton with eight digs as well. Senior setter Kiara Brown coordinated the effort with 34 assists as well.
