WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (15-9, 12-3 CIAA, 8-1 CIAA South) rolled to their 10th straight win with a three-set win over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (4-25, 2-13 CIAA, 0-10 CIAA South), Wednesday evening. In a match that was well played on both sides of the net, the Lady Rams were able to hold off the aggressive Golden Bulls team, 25-22, 25-18, and 25-17 in front of a raucous WSSU crowd.
It was fitting that on senior night, the WSSU tandem of outside hitter Adrianne Alexander and setter Kiara Brown led the Lady Rams to the win. As a team, the Lady Rams totaled 38 kills in the match while holding the Golden Bulls to 25 kills on 72 total attacks. Alexander finished the night with a stellar night with nine kills with just three attack errors and a block assist. Brown added 28 assists in the match as well.
Though the seniors led the way, the WSSU underclassmen also had a great night as well with sophomore Avoni Seymour and junior Francesca Edgerton adding seven kills each in the match as well. Freshman libero Brittany Rich added 11 digs.
With the win, the Lady Rams remain in the hunt for the 2011 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division title. The Lady Rams will head to nearby Salisbury, N.C. to take on the Livingstone Blue Bears, Friday evening.
