Box Score November 22, 2011WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (2-3) clicked on all cylinders, Tuesday evening when the team took a 71-46 win over the Georgia College & State Bobcats (1-4). The Lady Rams had one of their best overall performances of the season to pick up the win in their first home game of the season.
The Lady Rams put on a strong showing on both sides of the court, shooting 45.5% from the field while holding the Bobcats to shooting 31.6% from the field. The Lady Rams also held the rebounding edge in the game with 46 rebounds. WSSU senior guard Courtney Medley led the way for the Lady Rams with a double-double 17 points and 11 rebounds in the game. She was one of three Lady Rams to reach double-digit scoring in the game. Fellow senior Jordhan Peterson added 14 points as well. Sophomore guard Taylar Wells scored 12 points, hitting four three-pointers in the game.
The game was a tough one early with the Lady Rams holding on for a 12-11 lead midway through the half. Things would get challenging for the Lady Rams down the stretch of the half with the Bobcats taking a 16-14 lead on a three-pointer. However, the team responded in a big way with an 11-4 run to close out the half and take a 27-18 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Lady Rams were able to break out in the second half with 44 points in the second period. The team jumped out early in the half, outscoring the Bobcats 16-5 through the first seven minutes of the half to jump ahead by 20 points, 43-23 with 13:30 left to play. The Lady Rams would turn up their defensive efforts as the half went on and continued to control the game by as many as 27 points, and ended the night with the 71-46 win.
After opening home court in such a fine fashion, the Lady Rams will carry their momentum out on the road when the team heads to Buies Creek, N.C. to take on the Campbell Camels, Tuesday morning.
